Peridot gemstone comes from a mineral called olivine. The olive-green gemstone is the only jewel that is formed in silica deficient rocks such as volcanic basalt and pallasite meteorites. It is one of the gems which is formed in the molten rock of the upper mantle. In comparison with other gemstones that you can find in various colors, such as sapphires and tourmalines, peridot gemstone comes only in a unique green color - Olive green.

  • Durability - On the Mohs scale of hardness, peridot gemstone ranks 6.5 to 7 out of 10 making it a softer gemstone in comparison to other colored gemstones. Although they are said to be durable and can be molded into fine jewelry, however, they will require extra precautions not to damage the gem.

  • Space connection - Peridots are said to have space connections. They are one of the gemstones which were found inside a meteorite.



  • The Only Shade - As opposed to other colored gemstones, peridots can be found in only one shade of color which is the olive green shade.
